AN AGENDA 2030 TO TAKE CARE OF THE PLANET

Una Agenda 2030 para cuidar el planeta

In 2015, the UN approved the 2030 Agenda and along with it the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We tell you in this article what the plan is to achieve these goals by the target date without leaving anyone behind.

Although this agreement was signed six years ago, the 2030 Agenda is more relevant than ever in this post-pandemic scenario. At the 2015 United Nations meeting, a universal call was made to fight poverty, care for the planet and reduce inequalities. Aware of the global situation, international leaders adopted an agreement to combat it that included, in addition to the agenda, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Recognizing the importance of combating these factors, the key elements to reach this goal were: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships.

In order to achieve these goals, the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are proposed. Seventeen points that aim to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to achieve theirs. The fulfillment and success of the 2030 Agenda is based on countries’ sustainable development policies, plans and programs. All stakeholders (governments, civil society and the private sector, among others) are expected to contribute to its achievement.

At Revolución Limo, we have taken on five of these objectives, joining the progress towards the ecological transition: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Production and Consumption, Climate Action and Underwater Life.

The goal of building resilient infrastructures, promoting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation plays a key role in introducing and promoting new technologies to enable the efficient use of resources. Ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns also depends on the use of the natural environment, where economic progress is not based on a degradation of the very systems on which our future depends. All are actions that seek to take urgent steps to combat climate change and its effects. With our manufacturing process in Revolución Limo, reusing single-use plastics, we favor the fulfillment of these objectives along with the sustainable conservation of the oceans, seas and marine resources taking into account the increase of marine pollution in recent decades.

In 2020, the United Nations Secretary-General called for all sectors to cooperate in the Decade of Action and also pledged to mobilize financing and strengthen institutions. Investing in sustainable economies can bring hope for shared prosperity. It is our opportunity to embark on collective solutions that ensure a responsible manufacturing process, commensurate with the end product we are dealing with.
